Mission critical

Guide Your Lab to Financial Success

Many clinical laboratories today are in crisis—or approaching a financial point of no return because of two powerful developments: Exploding costs that are fueled by inflation and the unprecedented shortage of lab staff across all skills and positions. You and your management team have an immediate need for fresh ideas and proven solutions to swiftly control costs and fill open staff positions.

Proven ways to cut lab costs

Almost every skill position is understaffed, and your med techs are working long hours of overtime or even 7-day weeks. The pressure to cut costs is relentless and many hospitals are losing money and
are cutting lab budgets. Prices for your supplies—already difficult to obtain—are rising

Lab experts to teach you

That's why we've scouted the nation to identify forward-acting labs employing new and effective ways to cut costs while maintaining quality. We also found a handful of labs that are leveraging clever approaches to attract, hire, and retain lab staff, enabling them to achieve close to 100% of authorized FTEs.

Solutions your lab can implement immediately

Here's the good news! In the coming weeks, managers from these innovative clinical labs will teach you and your key lab managers their easy-to-replicate methods for reducing lab costs and for hiring more lab staff in today's tough employment market. And there's more! Your lab needs new sources of profitable revenue and we've got answers. A special module at the workshops will introduce you to proven ways to add value to your lab test results and be paid more for that added value.

Everything you need in only 1 1/2 days

Yes, it is a lab manager's trifecta! In just one and a half days of hands-on sessions, you and your managers will gain insights into effective cost-cutting, what's working and what's not in lab staff recruitment, and new opportunities to generate more revenue from your existing lab test volumes.

Savvy lab cost-cutting

You’ll learn how successful lab organizations are deploying strategies and techniques to reduce expenses. The menu is extensive: Lean/Six Sigma for continuous improvement and cost reduction, strategies to negotiate lower prices with lab suppliers, and use of standardization/consolidation to achieve economies of scale across all areas of clinical lab operations.

Secrets to hiring more MTs and lab staff

Get your lab staffing back to operational levels using the methods taught by our innovative lab leaders. You'll understand how to align recruitment, the hiring process, and employee retention to swiftly fill open positions. Our experts and your peers will help you understand the current level of salaries, benefits, and recruiting bonuses in today's lab employment market.

Increase your lab's revenue

Increasing your lab's revenue helps close budget gaps while funding new service lines. Learn proven ways to deliver more value with your lab's testing services. These income-generating strategies enable your lab to expand market share, win new physicians as clients, and even work with payers in ways that help them improve patient pare with measurable savings that your lab can share.

Practical solutions to your laboratory’s ongoing challenges

Savvy lab
cost-cutting

As supply chain disruptions and global economic fears increase prices, laboratories need to think critically about reducing costs and improving operations, perhaps even in unexpected areas. This workshop will:

  • Present provocative examples of improved lab operations that attendees will see immediate value from.

  • Show you how to effectively review the performance of lab analyzers in preparation for vendor price negotiations.

  • Provide a capital equipment evaluation tool to evaluate vendor product data about instrument performance.

Navigating the highly
competitive job market

Laboratories face unprecedented med tech shortages, a result of changing attitudes about healthcare jobs and shrinking training opportunities. Labs must stay competitive in recruiting job candidates while also boosting staff morale. This workshop will:

  • Explore how to create on-site clinical training programs.

  • Illustrate ways to reduce unnecessary work and create more bandwidth for staff.

  • Uncover fresh approaches to building a pipeline of MT and leader candidates.

Generating profitable
sources of new revenue

As the bottom lines at hospitals grow tighter, it’s up to laboratory leaders to think creatively about how to increase diagnostic test revenue and demonstrate this value to executives. This workshop will:

  • Delve into taking innovative approaches that will gain higher reimbursement from payers.

  • Suggest additional revenue opportunities from test expansion so that labs can bring in new customers from the community.

  • Explain how to effectively gather and analyze test data that can illustrate the value of lab services to executives.

FAQs

Why should I attend?

Labs today are facing challenging times as they struggle with exploding costs and an unprecedented staffing shortage. But we’re here to help! This engaging program will teach you and your key lab managers easy-to-replicate methods for reducing lab expenses and approaches to attract, hire, and retain talented lab staff. You’ll walk away with strategies that you can deploy quickly at your facility!

So what is this workshop format?

This program does not consist of typical lecture or conference sessions where you sit and listen to speakers. Following real-life case studies, participants will break out into groups to actively brainstorm and prioritize ideas, walking away with new ways to improve their labs. These workshops will be run by facilitators in a small setting that allows for personalized participation.

How is this workshop different from the annual Executive War College Conference?

Compared to our larger Executive War College conferences, this new learning event will focus on three specific topics challenging labs today. The comprehensive workshops will be run by facilitators in a small setting that allows for personalized participation. Be prepared to jump into real-world case studies and brainstorm solutions with peers. You'll walk away with practical ideas that you can implement immediately upon returning to your lab.

If I attend the annual Executive War College Conference, do I really need to go to this workshop?

We love hosting our loyal Executive War College attendees every year, and some of them suggested that we hold a smaller, more focused gathering on issues that every lab manager must deal with.  With attendance capped at 50 for each workshop, the brainstorming roundtables at the core of our agenda will create a more personalized experience for participants. We hope to see many of our Executive War College friends at this new workshop

Can I guarantee my investment?

If you aren't completely satisfied with the scope and content of Lab Essentials 2022 -- if you don't leave with dozens of new techniques to improve the way you do business -- we'll refund your tuition in full, promptly and courteously. We're confident that you'll find Lab Essentials 2022 to be time and money very well spent.

Are there group discounts if I want to send a team of colleagues?

Yes! Please email us at info@darkreport.com for more information on special group rates.

Can I receive CEU credits for this event?

Our workshop offers Professional Acknowledgement for Continuing Education P.A.C.E. credits when you participate.  The Dark Intelligence Group is approved as a provider of continuing education programs in the clinical laboratory sciences by the ASCLS P.A.C.E. ® Program.

Can I really afford to take time away from the lab right now to attend this workshop?

We chose to roll out this new workshop in Chicago and Miami because of the proximity of so many clinical labs to those cities. Tuition is affordable, travel expenses are minimal, and the lab managers you send will be out of the laboratory for only two days. They will return with proven approaches to cutting costs that can swiftly deliver monthly savings of $10,000 or more! This is the most powerful value proposition we can offer at a time when it can make a huge difference for your lab, your parent organization, and the physicians and patients you serve.

Are the hotel accommodations included?

Hotel accommodations are not included in the registration price for the workshop. If you need to make reservations, we will provide information on how you can contact the venue in your registration confirmation notice.

What happens if I need to cancel?

Substitutions may be made at any time at no charge. Cancellations up to one week before each event will receive a refund that is subject to a $300 cancellation fee. Cancellations 1-week before the event or sooner are non-refundable. However, attendee substitutions are allowed at any time.
